Most “trend” indicators on TradingView are single-timeframe repaints of the same momentum math. This one takes a different angle: it’s a multi-timeframe alignment filter, and the name tells you almost everything. The idea is to only mark trend candles when the higher-timeframe bias and the lower-timeframe momentum point the same way. When they don’t agree, you get nothing — and that silence is the whole point.
As shown in the chart above, the result is a series of coloured candles that appear in clusters rather than continuously. That visual is the feature, not a bug.
What it actually does
The concept is straightforward. You have a slow, structural read (the 4-hour) and a fast, execution read (the 15-minute). Individually, each produces noise: the 4h lags, the 15m whipsaws. The indicator’s job is to suppress both and only signal when the two are in phase.
This is a confluence tool, not a prediction tool. It doesn’t forecast where price is going; it filters out the moments when your two reference frames disagree. That distinction matters, because a lot of traders buy indicators expecting a crystal ball and end up disappointed. Here, the honest promise is narrower and more useful: fewer signals, each with two timeframes behind it.
Because it works across two timeframes, it is inherently a higher-timeframe-anchored tool. You’re not scalping a single 15m chart in isolation — you’re using the 4h as the boss and the 15m as the trigger.
How you’d actually use it
The natural workflow is as a trade filter layered on top of your own setup, not as a standalone entry system:
- Establish your directional bias on the 4-hour chart.
- Drop to the 15-minute for timing.
- Wait for the indicator to paint alignment candles in the direction of your bias.
- Treat the absence of candles as a “stand aside” signal — the two frames are fighting.
That last point is underrated. A lot of the value here is in what it doesn’t show. If you’re the kind of trader who overtrades, a tool that goes quiet when conditions are mixed is doing you a favour.
The obvious risk is chasing. Alignment candles are, by construction, confirmation — they appear after the move has started. If you wait for a full cluster to form before acting, you may be entering late. Used as a filter on a pullback entry, it’s more sensible than used as a breakout trigger.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Solves a real problem — timeframe conflict — with a clean, visual answer.
- The candle-painting approach is intuitive; you don’t need to interpret a histogram or read a table.
- Naturally reduces signal frequency, which suits swing and intraday-position traders more than scalpers.
- Works as a filter rather than a black box, so it complements whatever entry method you already trust.
Cons
- Confirmation-based by design, so it will always feel “late” to aggressive traders.
- Two-timeframe logic means one setting mismatch (wrong higher timeframe for your style) undermines the whole thing.
- No documented performance data means you’re trusting the concept, not evidence.
- On ranging markets, alignment candles can cluster around false starts — the filter can’t distinguish a real trend from a persistent chop.
Who it’s for
Discretionary traders who already have a 4h/15m workflow and want a visual confirmation layer. Swing traders using the 4h as their primary frame. Intraday traders who use a higher timeframe for bias and want to stop taking 15m signals that fight it. It is not for scalpers on the 1-minute, and not for anyone wanting a mechanical buy/sell arrow.
FAQ
Does it give buy and sell signals? It paints trend candles when the two timeframes align. How you act on that is your call — treat it as directional context, not an entry trigger.
Will it repaint? I can’t verify repaint behaviour without the source, and I won’t guess. Test it on a replay chart before relying on it live.
Can I change the timeframes? The name implies a fixed 4h/15m pairing. Whether the inputs are adjustable isn’t documented here, so check the settings panel yourself.
Is it better than a standard moving-average trend filter? Different job. An MA filter reads one timeframe; this reads two. If timeframe conflict is your problem, this addresses it more directly.
Verdict
Four stars, not five — because the concept is genuinely useful and the execution is clean, but it’s a filter, not an edge, and there’s no documented evidence behind it. If you already trade the 4h/15m pairing and keep getting chopped up by lower-timeframe noise, this is a sensible addition to your chart. If you want signals you can set and forget, keep looking.
